The DIY Network premiered Vanilla Ice's new half-hour reality T.V. series, The Vanilla Ice Project, on Thursday. The 10-episode series will focus on the rapper's attempt to overhaul a 7,000 square-foot home in Palm Beach, Florida. He hasn't forgotten about music, though. He has a new independent album, WTF, due out later this year.
E Street Band guitarist Steven Van Zandt has been brought aboard as music supervisor for a new project by writer-director David Chase. The two previously worked together on Sopranos but the new project is a currently untitled rock 'n' roll coming-of-age film.
Leif Garrett, 48, pleaded no contest to charges of heroin possession on Friday after being arrested in downtown Los Angeles in February. No sentence was given as Garrett is expected to enter a drug treatment program in lieu of jail time. Garrett was sentenced to 90 days in jail after being arrested for the same problem in 2006.
Skinny Puppy will release their long-delayed new studio album, In Solvent See, in February.
A-ha celebrated the 25th anniversary of their debut album, Hunting High And Low, by performing it entirely and the follow-up, Scoundrel Days, with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall on Oct. 8th. The special show was recorded by the BBC for what could be a later release.

George Michael was released from Highpoint Prison in Suffolk, East England, on Monday. The main thing that he wanted to say was, "I just want to start again. It's fantastic to be out, it's a beautiful day. I just want to say thank you for everybody who has supported me in there, it's quite inspirational." He has also hinted that he's ready to get back to music. Michael will serve the rest of his sentence on probation and is banned from driving for 5 years.
Liza Minnelli has been forced to cancel 7 upcoming concerts in the U.S. on the advice of her doctors due to bronchial pneumonia. The 64 year-old singer has been performing songs from her new studio album, Confessions.
R.E.M. have announced that their new studio album will be titled Collapse Into Now when released early next year. The album is their 15th studio effort.
David Uosikkinen of The Hooters has a new project at SongsInThePocket.org where he's been working on covering "the essential songs of Philadelphia" -- songs that were recorded, written or performed in the city of brotherly love by Philadelphians. The songs feature the band ITP (or In The Pocket) and a rotating line-up of the town's most respected musicians. The first release is a version of Youth Camp's "All My Mondays"... oddly enough, an 80s tune. The songs can be downloaded at the site for 99 cents with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Philadelphia's Settlement Music School.
Tom Waits latest project has him teaming up with legendary New Orleans jazz collective The Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Inspired by an old 78rpm recording, they recorded covers of Danny Barker's 1947 songs, "Tootie Ma Was A Big Fine Thing" and "Corrine Died On The Battlefield," to be released on limited edition (numbering 504 copies) 78rpm record. The first 100 will come with a custom-made 78rpm record player (which would be the deluxe package priced around $200.) The items can be ordered online at http://www.preservationhall.com starting Nov. 22nd.
Canadian metal act Helix have been working on an acoustic release, called Smash Hits Unplugged, that will see them re-record 12 of their career-spanning tracks and include a cover of A Foot In Coldwater's 1972 hit "(Make Me Do) Anything You Want."
Rush continue to take time out from their Time Machine Tour to work on their new studio album. They've just finished recording two new songs "Caravan" and "Brought Up To Believe" with 5 other tracks written.
According to a recent interview with producer Mark Ronson by Scotland's Daily Record, Duran Duran's new album "is out at the end of this year and it is just great." Ronson, a long-time fan of the band, has been producing the album.
Scottish act Orange Juice will be the focus of a box set, Coals To Newcastle, which will contain 6-CDs with their complete recordings and BBC sessions and a DVD with their videos, television appearances and their concert film, Dada With (The) Juice. A release date hasn't been announced by Domino Records.
Tony Iommi recently told Metal Hammer magazine in the U.K., "What I'm doing now is writing. I've gone mad, writing loads of riffs again." Of course, this has led to many rumors that he's working on the new material for a Black Sabbath reunion.

The show features 3 women married to rock stars (Duff McKagan, Perry Farrell and Steve Stevens) and one who hopes to do the same (she's been dating Billy Duffy of The Cult.) 8 episodes of the show have been ordered and it will premiere on Nov. 7th.

Alice Cooper will host the Monstrous Munster Mash on WGN America on Halloween from 10AM to 7PM (ET.) Cooper will introduce and provide commentary for 18 episodes of the 1960s series.
The Jam's 1980 album, Sound Affects, will be reissued in a deluxe double-CD set on Nov. 1st. Disc 1 will have the digitally remastered original album while disc 2 will have demos, covers, B-sides and more.

Bush vocalist Gavin Rossdale has confirmed the revelation that he had an affair with male pop singer Marilyn [Peter Robinson] when he was 17 (or about 27 years ago) in a recent interview with Details magazine. The relationship was first mentioned in Boy George's autobiography, Take It Like a Man, where he called Rossdale the love of Marilyn's life. Rossdale has two children with wife Gwen Stefani.

Celebrating the launch of Elton John's new album with Leon Russell, The Union, Sirius XM Radio has launched Elton!, a 7-day long commercial free music channel focused on the artist. The channel runs until Oct. 22nd on Sirius 33 and XM 27.
The Pixies played their first-ever headline concert in Chile on Wednesday at Santiago's Teatro La Cupula. It just happened to fall on the same night the 33 miners were rescued after 69 days trapped 2000 feet under the earth's surface. As a way to do something special, the band played 33 songs for the 33 miners... which is also the longest set they've ever played.

The set contains live versions of 6 of his classics and 6 songs from his 2009 album, Time Flies When You're Having Fun. Now And Then goes on sale on Nov. 1st.

Jason Donovan releases his new covers album, Soundtrack Of The 80s, in the U.K. on Oct. 19th. The 15-track album includes versions of songs by Tears For Fears, the Communards, the Cutting Crew, Terence Trent D'Arby, Mr. Mister, Yazoo, Danny Wilson, the Cars, Climie Fisher, Richard Marx, Howard Jones, Mike + The Mechanics and Mike Oldfield as well as two new songs written by Donovan.
Vocalist Joey Tempest of Sweden's biggest selling hard rock band Europe will host his own hour-long radio show on Planet Rock starting Nov. 7th. Alice Cooper, Rick Wakeman and Def Leppard's Joe Elliott have shows there.

The special version includes 3 discs -- a digitally re-mastered version of the album, a collection of previously-unreleased demos from the album, never-before-heard tracks and a DVD collecting promotional videos as well as The Story Of Penthouse And Pavement: 2010 Documentary.
A new deluxe boxed set, Michael Jackson's Vision, containing nearly 5 hours of content on 3 DVDs -- focused on his effect on the entertainment industry and pop culture -- will be released on Nov. 22nd.
Former Bus Boys and later Sha Na Na member Reggie Leon Battise, 55, lost his battle with prostate cancer on Oct. 8th. Battise was a bassist, singer, dancer and actor who appeared in the films White Men Can't Jump, Stayin' Alive and the Moonlighting T.V. series.
Grammy Award-winning and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee singer-songwriter Solomon Burke, 60, died on Oct. 10th at Amersterdam Schiphol Airport while on a plane that had just landed from Los Angeles. Burke was flying in to perform with De Dijk in Amsterdam a few days later (who he worked with on his new album, Hold On Tight, released earlier this year.) A cause of death has not been announced but the family has said that it was from natural causes. Burke has been a fixture on the U.S. Pop and R&B charts since 1961 -- scoring a #1 on the R&B chart in 1965 with "Got To Get You Off My Mind." He released 6 albums just during the 1980s and you might remember his song "Cry To Me" which appeared on the Dirty Dancing soundtrack.
