Leonard Cohen recently told Rolling Stone that he is working on a new album -- his first new material since 2004. He hopes to have it out by spring.
Bjork and Dirty Projectors have a collaborative EP, Mount Wittenberg Orca, on the way. The set includes 7 tracks originally written for a New York benefit concert they did last year. All proceeds from the disc will go to help marine conservation.
A new Art Of Noise double-disc retrospective, Influence (Hits, Singles, Moments, Treasures), will be released on Aug. 2nd in the U.K. The first disc contains hits, album tracks, television themes, mixes and B-sides and the second will include 20 previously-unreleased tracks spanning their career.
Jimi Jamison & Jim Peterik's Extra Moments will be released on July 23rd and can be pre-ordered via Melodic Rock Records. The album contains some of the additional material from the sessions for Jamison's Crossroads Moment.

Oney original lead guitarist/keyboarist Mickey Daniels passed away on June 21st. Daniels was still with the band who had been working on a live CD from their 2007 and 2008 reunion shows due out through Retrospect Records.
Tony Harnell & The Mercury Train have released the video for "Northern Lights" from their upcoming album, Round Trip, due out July 27th.

Controlled Bleeding will see the limited-edition remastered reissue of their 1992 album, Penetration, on Oct. 5th.
Yoso will release their debut album, Elements, on July 23rd (and July 2nd in Europe.) Yoso features former Yes members Tony Kaye and Billy Sherwood as well as former Toto vocalist Bobby Kimball.
According to TMZ, Marky Ramone has filed a lawsuit in New York Supreme Court against the people behind his royalties agreement. As drummer of the Ramones for the band's final 15 years, he signed a new royalties deal in 2005 but 3 years later royalty payments ceased. He claims the company in charge of the group's royalties management ignored the contract and took their money. Ramone is asking for $1 million in punitive damages and $175,000 in back royalties he's allegedly owed.
Sean LeVert's widow was awarded a $4 million settlement in the R&B singer's 2008 death in an Ohio jail. LeVert died behind bars 6 days after being sentenced for owing almost $90,000 in child support when he was denied his prescribed anti-anxiety medication.
Halford's new single, "The Mower," can now be purchased at HalfordMusic.com. The song comes from the new album, Halford IV: Made Of Metal, due out in October.

Crooner Tony Bennett, 83, will receive a lifetime achievement honor at this year's Silver Clef awards on July 2nd in recognition of his 60 years as a recording artist.

It seems that the original members of the BulletBoys weren't able to reconcile with vocalist Marq Torien and have brought in singer Andrew Freeman of Lynch Mob. No word on how they will be billed during the dates that they've started booking for late July and on.
Godflesh's 1989 sophomore album, Streetcleaner, has been reissued in an expanded version in Europe. Aside from the original material, the set includes 12 previously-unreleased live tracks by the industrial band as well as remixes and demos.

Former Toto/Le Roux vocalist Fergie Frederiksen has been diagnosed with inoperable cancer. Several friends are gathering for a benefit concert to be held on July 18th in Lake Minnetonka, Minnesota. Former Santana vocalist Alex Ligertwood and former Survivor singer Jimi Jamison will perform at the concert with all proceeds going to the Fergie Frederiksen Family Fund. Frederiksen is a father of two.
Top Fuel Records have announced that they will release a Rat Bastards compilation, Battering Ramm, with 3 new songs at www.topfuelrecords.com. The band was Ratt vocalist Stephen Pearcy's solo touring band with Erik Ferentinos.

Bauhaus' Peter Murphy will make his first return to the big screen in 27 years this month portraying The Cold One in Eclipse (the third installment of the Twilight series.) His last film appearance was in the 1983 film The Hunger... also a vampire flick. Meanwhile, Murphy is putting the finishing touches on his new studio album, Ninth, due out this fall.
Former Metal Church vocalist Ronny Munroe has joined Lillian Axe as a full-time member replacing Derrick LeFevre. The band had recently finished work on their 10th album, Deep Red Shadows, due out July 20th via Love & War Records.
According to an interview Sammy Hagar gave the Atlantic City Weekly, he's doing an autobiography called Sammy Hagar Red.
According to his recent interview with That Hair Metal Blog, former Warrant vocalist Jani Lane has been working on a song for Alice Cooper's next album. (He had a few songs on Cooper's previous release.) Lane has also finished writing all the material for his next album which he hopes to record this fall.
Aerosmith-branded lottery games launched last year and you didn't think Kiss would be far behind... did you? Kiss and the New Mexico Lottery have announced that they have signed a licensing agreement that will introduce the band to the $225 billion-a-year global industry.

According to RadarOnline.com, former Great White drummer Gary Holland has retained legal council over claims that he is still a 20% shareholder in the band and never gave up his 100 shares of Great White Productions (despite the band offering $100 for it after he was kicked out of the group.) He also alleges that he had a co-write on every song they worked on for those first 4 years and has never been paid.
Shout! Factory will release Megadeth's Rust In Peace Live on Blu-ray, DVD and CD on Sept. 7th. The set was recorded on Mar. 31st during the band's month-long Rust In Peace 20th anniversary tour.
Allman Brothers Band's Gregg Allman, 62, underwent a liver transplant surgery on June 23rd. Allman had been diagnosed with Hepatitis C in 2007 and has been fighting the disease ever since. The surgery has forced the band to suspend their tour and updates will be posted at his www.greggallman.com site.
Rush plan to head into the studio after their current summer tour to record their next album, Clockwork Angels, due out next year. Reports from the band say they are over halfway done and two of the songs have already been released online.
R.E.M.'s 1981 single, "Radio Free Europe," is among the 25 songs announced this week for induction into the Library of Congress' National Recording Registry.
Weird Al Yankovic is reportedly 9 songs into his next album with 3 more to go. He's currently on tour but expects to release it at the end of the year or early next year. He's been considering a Lady Gaga parody but hasn't revealed much about the album other than that it includes some of the music on his Internet Leaks EP. Meanwhile, he's also written a children's book, "When I Grow Up," due out in March.
Science fiction network Syfy plans to settle the Debbie Gibson and Tiffany 'rivalry' once and for all in the upcoming original movie, Mega Python vs. Gatoroid. Gibson will portray a fanatical animal-rights activist who frees illegally imported exotic snakes from pet stores and releases them into the Everglades... where they become gigantic. Tiffany will play an overzealous park ranger who uses dangerous methods to save endangered alligators. The two reportedly fight it out at a party in the film. Both have been in previous Syfy original films but never together.
Carlos Santana's new all-star collaborative covers album is due out in September. He has also finished work on the follow-up album which will be the all-instrumental album, Shape Shifter.
Michael Jackson fans will be seeing many tributes paid to the 'King Of Pop' during the first anniversary of his passing on Friday. Celebrations of his life are expected to last all weekend worldwide including a Forever Michael fan event on Friday in Los Angeles supported by his mother Katherine Jackson.
