Former Virgin Prunes singer-songwriter Gavin Friday has signed with Rubyworks for the release of his first new studio album since 2008. The album is expected out later this summer. Friday also recently recorded a cover of Suicide's "Ghostrider" with Dave Ball of Soft Cell which can be purchased as a digital download at Blast First Petite.
Mick Karn's official website has posted a statement by Karn and his management disclosing that he has been diagnosed with advanced stages of cancer. They also say that, although he's "in a positive mood and undergoing further tests and treatment," his family is struggling financially over this. The final recorded song to be released as a single by A-ha will be "Butterfly, Butterfly (the last hurrah)" on June 14th. The song will promote their upcoming new double-CD compilation.

Underworld will release, Barking, their first new studio album in 3 years in September.
Jimmy Barnes has announced that his 16th solo album will be titled Rage And Ruin when released on Aug. 13th. The first single from the album will be "Before The Devil Knows You're Dead."
The Go-Go's have been forced to cancel their farewell tour after guitarist Jane Wiedlin was injured in a 20-foot fall while hiking hear her Northern California home a few weeks ago. Wiedlin will go in for an ACL replacement surgery in the next few weeks and recovery can take up to a year.

A Culture Club reunion for 2012? Boy George mentioned it off-the-cuff during an interview with BBC radio last month. During his interview on Talking 80s Music with Martin Hennessy, guitarist Roy Hay confirmed that talks began after getting a bunch of Facebook messages congratulating him. He went on to say that a new studio album could be released next year prior to a Culture Club 30th anniversary tour.
Steely Dan's Donald Fagen plans to release his 4th solo album next year. Fagen is currently out promoting his upcoming tour with Michael McDonald and Boz Scaggs under the name The Dukes of September Rhythm Revue. McDonald is also trying something a bit new -- he is releasing some unusual songs that he has recorded, one-at-a-time via iTunes with live videos of the tracks on YouTube.
Dan Reed and bassist Bengan Jonasson learned that some people don't just want signed copies of CDs after the show. Reed's guitar and Jonasson's bass were stolen from backstage while they were signing copies of their new album, Coming Up For Air.
The first new Broadway production of Evita since its 1979 debut has been announced. The revival of the musical will star Ricky Martin as Che and Elena Roger as Evita with a spring 2012 opening expected.
The late Michael Jackson and Aretha Franklin will be inducted into the Apollo Legends Hall of Fame during the Apollo Theatre's Annual Spring Benefit on June 14th.

Robert Plant's new album Band of Joy will be released on Sept. 14th via Rounder Records. The set is his first since his Grammy-winning 2007 Raising Sand album with Allison Krauss and continues on the Americana music path.
On Monday, California District Court Judge Christina Snyder tossed out claims by Dr. Dre that WIDEawake Death Row Records put out a new version of his The Chronic album well as a greatest hits set without his permission. The judge ruled that the alterations to the original album were "minor and inconsequential." She did say that she will allow Dre's claims that he has not been paid royalties for his Death Row releases.
Bassist and producer Terry Lewis recently told Billboard.com that the new studio album by The Time is going into the mixing phase and fans will be hearing the album before the end of the year. The group has been working on the release since reuniting for the 2008 Grammy Awards. The band has also noticed that the 30th anniversary of their debut album comes next year. So talk about a retrospective and reissues of their back catalog are underway.
Bassist Marvin Isley of the Isley Brothers, 56, died from undisclosed causes in Chicago on June 6th. Isley was with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame-inducted group and co-wrote several hits with the them before he left in 1984 with brother Ernie and brother-in-law Chris Jasper to form Isley-Jasper-Isley. He returned to the band in 1991 but the act has been on hiatus since 1997.
Kiss' Gene Simmons has issued a statement in response to make-up artist Victoria Jackson's $500 million sexual assault lawsuit. "I have no idea who this woman is and I deny her allegations." He went on to say, "I was only at the ESPN studios for a very short time, perhaps a half-hour, and was accompanied by Kiss' drummer Eric Singer the entire time. I will not stand by and allow this baseless allegation to go unchallenged." Meanwhile, the band has released "Never Enough" as their latest single from Sonic Boom to radio stations.
Aerosmith's Joe Perry has backtracked on his recent words to the Guardian saying that new material isn't that important to the band anymore. He has now told RollingStone.com, "Looking at the calendar we'll probably be going into the studio sometime around the holidays or maybe in the beginning of next year."
Former Vinnie Vincent Invasion guitarist/vocalist Mark Slaughter will be joining Nelson on lead guitar for the Nelson 20th Anniversary Tour.

Ratt have announced that they have been forced to cancel their upcoming European tour due to vocalist Stephen Pearcy needing to undergo an urgent hernia surgery. The singer's physicians expect a full recovery in time for the North American leg of their tour.
A double-CD collection of Diamond Head's BBC recordings will surface on Aug. 2nd via Universal. The set includes some of the band's in session and in concert recordings on CD for the first time.
Iron Maiden have announced that they will release their new studio album, The Final Frontier, on Aug. 16th. Fans can whet their appetites by going to their U.S. or international pages to sign up for a free download of the new song "El Dorado" off the album.

Ace Frehley plans to release his memoir, No Regrets, via VH1 Books during the summer of 2011.
Singer-songwriter/producer Daniel Lanois has canceled his Black Dub tour until further notice. Lanois was involved in a motorcycle accident on June 5th near Los Angeles and suffered multiple injuries and was expected to be released from intensive care soon. The severity of the injuries are expected to take about 2 months which will delay the tour and release of the Black Dub debut album.
The Scorpions are readying their Get Your Sting And Blackout farewell U.S. tour underway on June 18th in New Jersey. Their new album, Sting In The Tail, debuted at #23 in the U.S. and the first single, "Raised On Rock," went to #1 on classic rock radio.
According to producer Kevin Shirley, Journey are near completion on their follow-up to 2008's Revelation. Mixing is expected in November and a release early next year.
Ozzy Osbourne recently told Blabbermouth that he has settled his lawsuit against Tony Iommi over the use of the Black Sabbath brand and that everything is alright between the two. Meanwhile, Ozzy's son Jack has been filming a documentary about the singer which includes a lot of celebrity interviews. No word on a release for the film. Ozzy's new album, Scream, will be released on June 22nd.

On June 16th, the band heads to Comedy Central's The Colbert Report to perform a few songs. They are also set to appear on Letterman on June 15th and Live With Regis & Kelly on June 18th.
VH1 Rock Docs will present the world television premiere of the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival Audience Choice Award-winning documentary, Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage The premiere will take place on June 26th on VH1, VH1 Classic and Palladia.
Jimmy Page has been inducted into the Mojo Hall Of Fame during the magazine's annual award ceremony. During the event, Page said that he has been working on new material for a number of different projects.
During Slash's recent performance in Italy on June 10th, an attendee came down from the rafters and tackled Slash (during the "Sweet Child O' Mine" guitar solo) from behind knocking him into the stage monitors. The fall broke the head on the guitar and security grabbed the assailant (only to kick him out of the show.) A video can be seen here.
