Ronnie Milsap's hit, "Smoky Mountain Rain," has won a competition to become Tennessee's new state song. The state has had 7 previous official state songs but the song mentions the state's Knoxville and Gatlinburg in its homage to the Great Smoky Mountains. The song was a #24 hit in 1980 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart and a #1 hit on the Billboard Country Singles chart.
