Reggae singer/producer Sugar Minott, 54, died on Saturday at the University Hospital of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica. A cause of death was not disclosed but Minott was forced to cancel performances in Canada two months ago due to chest pains (which may be unrelated.) He did suffer from a heart condition as of last year. Minott released 23 albums just during the 1980s. He ran his own record label (Black Roots) and also nurtured many up and coming artists including Junior Reid. Minott did record a new studio album, New Day, that is scheduled for release in the next few weeks.
